Cisco Voip
![]() Cisco Inexpensive VOIP solution for newbs? I'm getting a Cisco 1701 which I know supports VOIP and considering a 2621XM to learn. I know both can do PBX (am I right?). I'd like to use a VOIP phone (or two) and use a land line. Also, I plan to set up a point to point connection to peer wanting to do similar. If I wanted to set up voice over land line what do I need to do, and cheaper method is best. I've heard of DID and FXS. DID is more expensive, the cards I've found. What interface cards would I need to accomplish inbound and outbound calling for as cheap (within a 100 range) as possible but functional. Also, say I didn't use a land line though defeat a big purpose, can I still set up two Cisco IP phones linked? Do I need Call Manager Express, is there a cheaper solution like computer based software? I'm confused on logistics and how I could go about this. If anyone could provide info, it would be great! You can configure the 2600XM Cisco router for CallManager Express, which can act as your PBX phone system. The feature set and capabilities are limited, just keep that in mind. But, next you need a Voice Network Module with FXO WIC cards. Those are not cheap, but you may be lucky on ebay. Your phone line from your PSTN provider would connect into the FXO port. If you get a VoIP phone, specifically a Cisco IP Phone that would connect to your router across the LAN and you can place/receive calls out your analog line. There is quite a bit of configuration needed, but there are many resources out there. I have a VoIP solution very similiar setup for my business, but we are using a Cisco 2800 and the new module called the Cisco Unified Communications 520 series designed for small businesses. |

Cisco Ata
![]() Cisco ASA that won't allow L2TP/IPSEC from a Windows Client to off site? What is the best way to trouble shoot this problem? I have a Windows XP client. The Cisco ATA is set to allow everything out bound and I've ever tried setting up an access rule to allow anything two/from this machine. Is there some way to make windows log what's wrong? The Error is the other end is not answering. I've tried this same laptop offsite and it's able to connect fine. Cisco Adaptive Security Appliance Software Version 7.2(3) Hey there guy. I had the same problem. First, do you have SmartNet? If so, call them! This is really what you pay for! It is in your firewall. You have to specifically allow any to any udp port 4500 and any to any udp isakmp. If you do not see isakmp, you have to change it make it. It is port 500. Cheers. Tom hummm....I did a bit more digging. What version of IOS do you have? That may make the difference in this being hard or easy. The instructions I gave you were for Cisco client, not MS client. Try this out..... I think though, you may want to evaluate how you are connecting to this remote site. I have checked around, and while possible, it is not that easy. Tom |

Cisco Power
![]() Is there a way to adjust the transmit power of a Cisco 1000-baseLX GBIC? Cisco's website lists a range of transmit power between -3 and -9.5 dbm. That's quite a range, and it makes me think there's a way to adjust it because it seems doubtful they'd manufacture the thing to such a loose tolerance. But every time I've used a GBIC, you just plug them in and go, there's no configuring specific to the GBIC. What's the deal? There is no way to adjust. |
