How come a power adapter such as the one you plug into your laptop will list the voltage and current?
I'm a bit confused here. I've been reading that current is determined based on the resistance in a circuit (Current = Voltage/Resistance), so I don't understand why the power adapter lists the current although it hasn't encountered any resistance yet to even determine what the current is. I thought it would simply just list the voltage.
I always took this to mean that the voltage will be the specified value (since it is determined by the windings on the transformer and the rectifier or other circuitry) but that the current actually drawn can be up to the specified value (based on the power rating).

Power Cord

How can you feed a power cord thru a 100 ft garden hose?
I have cut the male section off the cord and want to feed it through a 100ft long rubber garden hose so I can rn power to a dock. Any suggestions?
Use a snake. It's a stiff piece of metal that comes on a coil - much like a tape measure, only stiffer.
Electricians use them to pull wires through conduit. You could probably rent one somewhere.

Power Supply

What power supply will I need for a Sapphire ATI Radeon HD 2600XT 512MB graphics card?
My PC has still got the original 250W power supply it came with. I've read that I'll need to upgrade it.
Does anbody know what power supply I'll need and how much would it cost?
It is possible but unlikely that a 250W supply will do the job.
Not because 250W would be insufficient (although it may be) but because it is likely that there will be insufficient current available on the 12v rail from the PSU.
The first link below is very useful - better (IMHO) than some other PSU calculators, because it deals with the 12v requirement
in addition to the overall requirements...
I use Seasonic myself - I've had some trouble with budget brands in the past - but the 460W Gigabyte model from Scan looks a bargain at £25.84...

Phones Power

How far off of power/phone lines should I plan Fraser Firs?
I got neighbors with trashy backyards and unfortunately power and phone lines run along the border, so I can't block them out right on the line, how fair away from the lines should I plant fraser firs to avoid potential problems?
You should check with your power and phone providers. Many times they have a right of way and you can't plant trees within that right of way.

Cisco Power

Is there a way to adjust the transmit power of a Cisco 1000-baseLX GBIC?
Cisco's website lists a range of transmit power between -3 and -9.5 dbm. That's quite a range, and it makes me think there's a way to adjust it because it seems doubtful they'd manufacture the thing to such a loose tolerance. But every time I've used a GBIC, you just plug them in and go, there's no configuring specific to the GBIC. What's the deal?
There is no way to adjust.
